We bought the farm

Homestead for Youth hitches their wagon to a forever home - The Farm Gates Are Staying Open.

Founders of the residential youth support service Homestead For Youth, Carla and Martin Fadelli announced that they have successfully raised the money to buy a 150-acre property in rural Western Australia. Funds to buy the farm seemed elusive until a surprise investor, a miraculous outpour of community support and a successful crowd funding campaign took off and came to the attention of last minute generous donors.

Carla and Martin founded Homestead For Youth in 2014 in response to the alarming rates of youth suicide, particularly in rural Australia. They believe that by creating the optimal environment for growth and recovery, young people and their families can strengthen and heal. Services offered at Homestead include Equine therapy, family and individual counselling, residential care, car restoration programmes and not to forget the unique H4Y Therapy & Animal farm, tailored to the needs of young people and their families.

The need to secure a permanent home for the service became pressing during 2020 when they couldn’t finalise the funds for the sale of the rural property they moved on to in 2017. This ignited Homesteads crowdfunding campaign to "Keep the Farm Gates Open" which led to speaking opportunities, donations, awards and ultimately a private investor and private donors with a passion for Homestead’s work. "It’s an incredible feeling to reach this point in the Homestead journey," says cofounder Martin Fadelli, "while we never wavered in our commitment to reduce youth suicide and support youth in crisis, we did sometimes wonder if we would ever find a permanent base for our service".

It has taken the work of an entire community to get to this point. Supporters come to Homestead from all walks of life, drawn by the belief that everyone has a role in creating a better world for young people. Residential Manager Angelique du Toit feels that the best thing about Homestead is ‘the wholehearted investment we make in the lives of young people and their families, that plant seeds that can grow into genuine recovery’.

We have an investor to pay back but we are confident with the 10 year terms and backing of the W.A community along with H4Y’s developing micro business to create sustainability in the future, H4Y can one day expand beyond the farm gates to over east locations. For now, we enjoy the farm being ours and can commence the growth and opportunities that no longer take a back seat.

Clients and their families have and always will remain our priority and we now have a beautiful farm to do that in.

H4Y Animal & Therapy Farm

We have been amazed at how this humble little farm that started being built 3 years ago by volunteers bit by bit has grown into its own. The brain child of Founder & Psychologist Carla Fadelli, she really wanted an outdoor therapeutic space where your mental health and emotional well being could benefit without having to necessarily attend the farm’s Psychology & Counseling Clinic. An animal farm with a difference. Now under the animal loving hands of Kayla Zahara, the Animal Farm is a constant hive of activity with events, Toddler Groups, School bookings, parties, workshops, community tours and self guided tours. Each week almost there is something new to see or do.

Here is what one parent had to say;

We had a wonderful day at H4Y animal and farm. The girls are very friendly and caring.

Really recommended to go with kids and spend the day having fun with the little animals, enjoy a walk or a picnic at the wild park.

What glorious weather we enjoyed for the 2021 recent Easter event in the Animal Farm. It was a great success with more than 150 members of the community showing up to enjoy the festivities. The surprise arrival of Thomas the Train was a big hit with the kids and fair to say also with it's driver who was also having a lot of fun with Thomas. It was a great way to connect with each other, celebrate the true meaning of Easter and have one of many easter weekend easter hunts.

The Alcoa & Peel Business Excellence Awards of 2020 was a super success for Homestead For Youth. Not only were we nominated as finalists but we were the Runner Up in the Community Hero Award. Being a novice to the awards Marty Fadelli realised that he had to make a speech, followed by an amazing outpouring of support including an impromptu raffle, pass the bucket and donations to follow. This sparked the completion of the final miracle we needed to save the farm and keep the gates open. We were also blessed to connect with generous business such as Wealth Advisory, Dare Adventures, Baldock Group & Lockdown Security. The final year that Not For Profits are included in the categories we were excited to be involved.

We were donated a 14 seater brand new Bus! We can’t believe it. We are so grateful to a local business for this generous donation.

Festive Fun Day    December 1st 2018

The weather turned on for us, with nearly 300 members of the community joining us to celebrate the new year, connect, have fun and support the work our team does here at Homestead For Youth to #Change The Story on youth suicide.

Many a pony ride was had, face painting,  West Coast Music school drumming circle, Bunnings workshops, art workshops, tractor rides and not to forget the Sensory & Therapy Animal Farm was on show with it's new additions as the farm grows with the help of the community.

We were excited to see Santa, Rapid Relief provided a free sausage sizzle, Pesky Pear laid out their amazing movie experience, Yummy Yummy icecream, H4Y Lollie's, eggs and lemons were on sale and Ethan sharing his musical talent for the day.

Most importantly people were able to support H4Y by purchasing one of our Gift of Life Calendars where you buy a day in the honor of a loved one, purchase a Christmas Card and sign up to one of our many ways to get involved in the lead up to our Crowdfunding efforts to help H4Y keep the farm gates open so we can continue to #Change The Story on youth suicide.

We are here for you. Our Farm Gates are always open. Our Home is your home away from home.
